AISI 4130 Low Alloy Steel
AISI 4130 / UNS G41300 grade is a low alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum as strengthening agents. The steel has good strength and toughness, weldability, and machinability. AISI 4130 finds many applications in oil & gas, offshore, mining, and aerospace industries.
4130 Chemical Composition

4130 Mechanical Properties

Annealing
Heat treating at 855°C (1570°F), slow cooling at 760°C (1400°F) at a rate of 18°C (35°F)/hour to 666°C (1230°F), or rapid cooling at 674°C (1245°F) for 4 hours of isothermal annealing.
Temperament
The tempering temperature of 4130 alloy steel can be 204-649°C (400-1200°F) after normalizing and water quenching, and the corresponding Rockwell hardness can be obtained.
Forging
The forging temperature of 4130 alloy steel material is about 1204°C (2200°F).
Welding
All common arc welding processes such as (SAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GTAW) can be used to weld 4130 alloy steel, but to avoid cracking, it must be preheated to 150-290°C before of welding, preheating the interpass the temperature depends on the thickness of the steel section.
Typical Applications
AISI 4130 suits many applications as forgings in the Aerospace and Oil & Gas industries as Forged Valve Bodies Pumps and other Low Stress Oil & Gas applications as well as Agricultural and Defence Industries.
